New Year's Goal: Shopping List

As I continue making my way through my 12 New Year's Goals, I have just completed #11: Make a printable shopping list which includes all the items I order from the food co-op, online, Whole Foods, etc. In light of our specific dietary needs, I'm surprised by the variety and extent of our list!

  1. Thank you for sharing ,
my husband likes using vinegar and baking soda as our cleaning product. Can we also used white vinegar in cooking ? I understand some brands can be used for cooking (Heinz, derived from sun-ripened grain ) while others are basically for cleaning .
Depending on which ingredients they are derived. Wonder what white vinegar is made from .

  2. Here is what one article says about white vinegar:
"Distilled white vinegar is made from the oxidization of the ethanol in alcohol, usually an alcohol made from grains. This oxidization process produces acetic acid, the key ingredient in vinegar." I prefer raw apple cider vinegar for eating and stick with white vinegar for cleaning simply because of the contrasting "live" nature of apple cider vinegar vs. the methods used for white vinegar. (Although many people do fine eating white vinegar.)

  3. Thanks for sharing. I noticed that you have two types of coconut oil. Why the different kinds? Also, I noticed that you do not have any whole grains on your list? Do you eat breads, pasta, etc.?

  4. Expeller pressed has no coconut flavor (therefore less nutrition)...but it still retains some of the wonderful properties of coconut oil. It is wonderful for stir fries. I buy the virgin raw organic coconut oil that is cold pressed for our desserts and other uses for full flavored coconut oil.
We went grain free 2 years ago simply because of the severity of our illnesses. For me I love grain free and will never go back. When we add grain back in we'll go with quinoa and sprouted buckwheat. Those with less severe health issues do great with sourdough and sprouted grains.

  5. Just curious - in the essential oils I didn't see the oils for the Thieves blend nor lemongrass, both of which are very strong anti-fungals and have helped our family tremendously. Have you looked into these? Were they maybe too strong?

  6. We have lemongrass and use doTerra's version of Thieves...it's an incomplete list of the oils...those are the ones we can't live without :)

  7. Thank you for all the information. I am dealing with something similar, possibly mold may be a factor but mostly it is Candida, a very sudden severe case. Because I am so limited in my eating and chemical exposure while I try to figure out the healing process, my question is, how do you travel? I recently made a short trip for work for three days and it was horrible. so many things I hadn't thought of. Bleach used on everything, sheets, towels, the whole bathroom. I brought food but it was very difficult and I am dealing with issues now due to small amounts of eating out and chemical exposures. I am a single parent working full time so I am very limited on time and money and am looking for things that can help me heal. Thanks for any info,

  8. There is a network of Green Hotels that offer allergy friendly rooms. Sometimes I request in advance that they clean with white vinegar and sometimes they are accomodating. We have traveled with frozen chicken broth and allowed it to thaw in the fridge at the hotel...If there is any type of hot plate it can be heated. Traveling is tough...there is no way around it....Various family members of ours have traveled and they always look for a juicing place and typically don't eat as much on the road...try to get condensed nutrient dense foods wherever you can. Just some thoughts...I know how hard it is.
